Award from Olive

We were honored to receive the Beautiful Blogger award from Olive. Of course, Sassy assumed it was for her, a beautiful blogger, and was a bit disappointed when I explained she must share it w/ her bubbas.
The rules are to list 10 things that make us happy and to do one of those things today. We're going to list 3 things each.
Sassy:
1. Ride in the truck with Dad
2. Chase tennis balls
3. Chew my Nylabone
Zack:
1. Chase squirrels
2. Bark at imaginary monsters in the woods
3. Play with Sassy
Buddy:
1. Carry a tennis ball in my mouth, everywhere I go
2. Play with Sassy
3. Let Mom brush me
We'd like to pass on this award to all of our bloggie buddies who have not yet received it! Thanks again, Olive!

Sassy Says

Do not follow where the path may lead.
Go, instead, where there is no path and leave a trail.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm looking sad because Mom has taken out the big suitcase, and she's packing fleece jackets, hats, gloves, snowboots and cuddle duds.  This is obviously not a beach trip with the girlfriends.

Where you going, Mom?

Zack, Healthy Senior Citizen

Zack had a good visit to the vet yesterday.

(He gets nervous enough and doesn't need the flashy beast around to make matters worse, so no photos.)

Dr. Annette said his discolored tooth shows no signs of infection, causes him no pain and she suggested leaving it alone, just like you said kks.
That was a huge relief!

She also aspirated 2 lumps that appear to be lipomas (benign, fatty tumors), which are common in older dogs. Zack was approximately a year old when we adopted him in Oct. 2001, so he is 10+.

Dr. Annette identified the little growth on his lower, right eyelid as a meibomian gland adenoma, a benign condition, also common in older dogs. He looks like he always has dirt in his eye, but it doesn't seem to bother him in the least.

His nuclear sclerosis (senile cataracts) has not worsened since his last visit.

Overall, Dr. Annette said Zack looks great for a senior doggie and that Mom should stop worrying.

Thanks for all the good vibes yesterday...bloggie buddies are the best!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zack has a vet appointment today for a discolored (pink shade) upper canine tooth, which usually indicates a non-vital (dead) tooth. The problem with dead teeth is they are a source for spread of bacterial infection throughout the body.
The tooth will probably need be extracted, which requires anesthesia. I worry about the effects of anesthesia on an older doggie. I'll keep you posted.
Monday's Memory-Cesar and Daddy
Cesar Millan
Atlanta Home Show
~March, 2006
Hubby and I arrived at the Atlanta Civic Center 4 hours before Cesar's performance, and were the first ones to purchase tickets. The place was empty as we left for what should have been a quick lunch. When we returned the place was packed and we lost our front row seats. Dog-gone it!
Cesar was warm, friendly, funny, and gracious. He went on stage, wagged his "tail" and then lifted his leg on the artificial tree. After he spoke, he signed autographs for an hour, until his next performance. We were almost to the signing table when it was time for him to take the stage again. He promised to continue signing autographs after the second appearance. We had a 2 hour drive ahead of us, and needed to get home to the dogs. I was very disappointed, but a very nice lady in front of me in line, offered to take the photo I had brought and have Cesar sign it, and then mail it to me.
Aren't "Doggie People" just the best?
Although I'm retired, I love to volunteer at school.
Last week, I had the pleasure of serving as a judge for the county-wide Spelling Bee.
I was thrilled that one of my former first graders was a contestant.
My sweet, little first grader has grown into a wonderful young lady.
I'm very proud of you, Chloe!
Monday's Memory-Cosmo Kitty
On a cold, January day in 1993, a beautiful yellow cat showed up on our front porch.
He was wearing a collar and appeared well fed.
I called all my neighbors, asking if they had lost a cat. No luck!
I put up "FOUND CAT" signs, called the radio station, local vet and shelter to see if anyone had reported a missing cat. Nope!
I didn't want to become attached to this pretty kitty as I knew he must be someone's pet.
After he had been with us a couple of weeks, I decided I had given it my best effort, and he was now my kitty.
That evening we were watching the episode of Seinfeld when Kramer's name (Cosmo) was disclosed.
Cosmo Kitty had his name and a new home!
He crossed the Bridge after sharing his love with us 13 years.
Max at Dog Daze
Our dear fur-iend Max, from South Africa, is on a Cyber-World Tour, visiting all his doggie blogging friends who love him.
We were tickled pink that Max was able to spend time with us in North Georgia. Upon his arrival, Max was smothered in kisses and good old-fashioned, southern hospitality.
While Momma prepared lunch, we went outside to sniff the fresh mountain air,bark at squirrels, and chase balls. We lazed in the southern sunshine while Max shared amazing stories about South Africa.
We had worked up quite an appetite when Momma rang the lunch bell and
hollered from the back porch, "Y'all come!"
Momma served a traditional southern lunch, that would have made Paula Deen proud. We enjoyed shrimp and grits, cornbread, pickled okra, and sweet iced tea with a sprig of fresh mint. For dessert, we had individual Georgia pecan pies. My, my, how Momma blushed when Max asked for second helpings!
Following lunch, we all curled up by the fire, sharing secrets and Nylabones. We were disappointed when Momma announced it was time for Max to leave us and continue his tour.
As Max rode away, Momma noticed that the last bud on the Christmas Cactus was blooming. A perfect ending to a perfect day.
We will forever cherish our special time with Max and hope he enjoyed our southern comfort!
Southern Snow
We were treated to about 3 inches of snow yesterday! Although this is nothing to brag about, compared to the recent snows in the northeast, it was enough to get us excited!
I heard on the news that every state, with the exception of Hawaii, had reports of measurable snow on the ground today!
