Memorial Day 2009

Please take time to remember the men, women, and dogs who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our great nation free.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I grew up on Marine Corps bases and heard this special tune played daily.
I was taught from a very early age to respect the flag and the men and women in uniform who put their lives at risk, insuring our Feedom.
"Colors" is the ceremonial raising or lowering of our nation's flag. On a military base, you will typically hear some type of music during colors, perhaps the national anthem or "To the Color" while the flag is raised or lowered. If you are driving, you should stop your car until the last note sounds. If you are outside your vehicle, home or place of business, you should stop moving and stand respectfully at attention, placing your right hand over your heart and facing the direction of the main flagpole on base, until the music ends. Men and boys should remove their hats. Of course, active duty military members, veterans and Scouts in uniform should render a military salute.
Happy Trails,
  4. How nice to remember the war dogs along with our vets.
    My brother was a dog handler in the vietnam war.
    They do have a web site up showing the men and dogs.
    At present I can't remember the right website but will find out.
  6. Kit,
    You have a heart of an angel. Thank you for reminding us all how important our soldiers and their working doggies are to our country. Without them, we would not be the country that we are.
  10. Awesome post! I do not have any immediate family in the service but am still so truly grateful for their (and their family's) many profound sacrifices. The war dogs reminded me of this site where some profits from dog toy sales go to support military working dogs (among other rescues that you can specify). I chose the military dogs when I placed my last order.
    Here is the site (FYI) http://www.helpingudders.com/TugsinDetail.htm
    Here is a post about it: http://dewdana.blogspot.com/2008/12/udderly-awesome-toy.html
