I'm Juz Sayin' ~Zack

The best antique is an old dog.

Zack has a vet appointment today for a discolored (pink shade) upper canine tooth, which usually indicates a non-vital (dead) tooth. The problem with dead teeth is they are a source for spread of bacterial infection throughout the body.
The tooth will probably need be extracted, which requires anesthesia. I worry about the effects of anesthesia on an older doggie. I'll keep you posted.

  1. awww, please do...I have been nervous about getting Olive's teeth cleaned...they would have to put her under.

    I am thinking about you...

  2. We will keep him in our prayers.
Sir Bear is 9 years old and the vet always does extra blood work on him before doing any special treatments. Just to be safe.

  3. older? I thought Zack was pretty young (at least younger than Moose who is 8.5). I see he was rescued in 2001 though so even if he was a puppy at the time I guess he is a distinguished gentleman or a seƱor as I like to call Moose. I know what you mean about the anesthesia. My vet likes to tell me about all the resuscitation equipment they have should anything go wrong but that does not really make me feel better. We will keep our fingers and paws crossed.

  4. Zack, my paws are crossed that your Vet visit goes well and that there is nothing serious with your tooth, or you. Positive healing dog vibes are being sent your way!

Good luck, and keep us informed!

  5. I will be thinking of Zack today.Am sure he will be in very good hands and they will probably just give him a small amount of anaesthetic,as the procedure shouldn't take long.

    Bellaboo :o)

  7. Best wishes, Zack. Our hu-dad tries to avoid anesthesia for us as well, so he understands the concern.

  9. An antique dog can be the love of your life and it's so hard to watch it's decline.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Zack and the Vet today as you make the decision on his tooth - I pray all goes well.

  10. The best antique is indeed and old dog, especially if you're an antique too! :-)

I hope that Zack's tooth won't have to be extracted. Like you, I worry about the use of anesthesia on an older dog and avoid it as much as possible.

  11. Oh dear, do keep us posted. The laughy gas is a thing not to be taken lightly for more mature doggies. My vet is totally high tech and she has some new fangled laughy gas that only lasts a few minutes so it is less scary to use. Hope you pull through OK. Save the tooth! Maybe the doggie tooth fairy will bring you a special surprise.

  18. I came to your blog through MAX in South Africa. We have a pack of loved ones that live with us in Middle Tennessee so we're neighbors! That's one of the things I like about blog land - finding other dog people. I bet seeing Cesar was great. We all exercise on the treadmill thanks to his great ideas (it really helps in the winter.)
I hope Zack's tooth problem can be handled easily. Keep us posted - your neighbor from the holler!

  21. It is always a worry for senior dogs to be under but I am sure all will go well for Zack! Better than further problems caused by that tooth... During Jeter's exam, Dr. S found a very brown tooth way in the back so he is going in for a cleaning and exam too (after your visit) The pups are looking forward to hugs!! xoxo

  23. ~K, we'll be thinking about Zack today. Hopefully it'll be an easy and quick extraction & he'll only be under anesthesia for a very short time.

  25. Wishing good news about the Zacks tooth. We like your saying about an older dog being the best antique. We worry about Sasha, she is soon to be 10 and she has lots of lumps coming on. Last time they checked they said it was only fatty. Thanks for visitin us!

  30. Strange, my Linguini (10 years old) has tooth issues and she could use a couple of extractions and a deep cleaning, but the vet said it's better not to put her under until something else comes up (she has tumors too, so she may need some removed). Let us know what happens please.

  31. Oh no! The vet is awfully scary! I hope you get better soon, Zack. I hope they don't have to do something really painful to your tooth!
