Zack, Healthy Senior Citizen

Zack had a good visit to the vet yesterday.

(He gets nervous enough and doesn't need the flashy beast around to make matters worse, so no photos.)

Dr. Annette said his discolored tooth shows no signs of infection, causes him no pain and she suggested leaving it alone, just like you said kks.
That was a huge relief!

She also aspirated 2 lumps that appear to be lipomas (benign, fatty tumors), which are common in older dogs. Zack was approximately a year old when we adopted him in Oct. 2001, so he is 10+.

Dr. Annette identified the little growth on his lower, right eyelid as a meibomian gland adenoma, a benign condition, also common in older dogs. He looks like he always has dirt in his eye, but it doesn't seem to bother him in the least.

His nuclear sclerosis (senile cataracts) has not worsened since his last visit.

Overall, Dr. Annette said Zack looks great for a senior doggie and that Mom should stop worrying.

Thanks for all the good vibes yesterday...bloggie buddies are the best!

Happy Trails,

  1. YAY!! Being part of a household that has had its fair share of geriatric residents (*cough*TaiChi*cough), Mom knows how stressful any visit can be. (Mom suggests that if you don't already, you should start doing blood work just to make sure there are no problems with his kidneys/liver. Also, have his blood pressure checked. It keeps you on top of stuff before it becomes big problems.) Glad to hear that the checkup was good!!!

Raider has one of those fatty tissue lumps, too. Fortunately it is benign and doesn't bother him.

  17. that is good news!! As our dogs age it is so important to keep on top of their health, as you do.

When you visit, I will show you the small flaplike growth on Halle's eyelid, it too is not a problem for her and I have had it checked, both my vet and her former NJ vet said it is not a problem. Happy Packing!! xoxo

  22. So Glad to hear Zack's vet visit went well. Bambi says 10 isn't old!!! She did not not even have her lumps yet. Our Vet can't get over how good Bambi's eyes are. Clear as can be.
He says 10 is when the eyes start to get cloudy.

  25. Love the news! I thought so yesterday, but some vets are really keen on doing needless mouth work and I didn't want to get in the middle. Zack's health report is identical to my Linguini's who is also 10+ now. That's a great medical report for large breeds at that age. Go Zack! Good mommy not to bring the camera.

  28. That is wonderful news! Zack doesn't look 10 plus years old...he looks almost like a puppy to me. I am so glad to hear the visit when well. I know how it is to worry about these babies of ours. Love to all, Debbie and Hollydog

And I'm sure you are as well! :)

  30. All clear! Good for you! It is funny how mature doggies get funny bumps, but as long as they don't bother you then who cares, right?

Sorry you get nervous at the vet. Don't worry, it happens to lots of doggies. I try to be brave but last time I went I kind of pee'd a little. Whoops.
