On a warm, July evening in 2007, Hubby took Sassy out for her last potty trip of the night. For some reason I had not pulled the car in the garage. As hubby walked on one side of the car, he heard Sassy yelp from the other side. He realized immediately that something serious had happened.
They both came running into the house and the look in Sassy's eyes told me she was in trouble. It was difficult to restrain and examine her, as she was in so much pain, she was trying to run away to escape the agony. Can you imagine?
When we discovered the two, very small puncture wounds, we knew she had been bitten by a snake and needed immediate medical attention.
We live in the "boondocks" and the closest emergency vet is 25 (very long during an emergency) miles away. I think we made the trip in 15 minutes.
( Do the math!)
Sassy was on antibiotics and pain meds for awhile, but the worst therapy was "no swimming" (in July) orders from the VET.
She will always have a scar, as if we needed a reminder of that scary evening.
