We've had a squirrel problem forever. Most of the birdseed goes to the squirrels, which is frustrating and expensive. It seems that the squirrel population increased while we were on our trip and we had decided to stop feeding the birds altogether. But, we love the birds and missed them very much. Friends have suggested poisoning, shooting, even electrocuting the squirrels, but we don't kill ANYTHING in our house. Remember, Hubby captures copperheads and takes them to an undisclosed location.
So, Hubby decided to buy a live, humane trap to capture and release the furry varmints. He's staying busy taking the squirrels away (same undisclosed location as snakes). Hopefully, the squirrels don't have a GPS and will not return.
It's a good thing the live trap is working because I was ready to take matters into my own hands (er, paws).
Buddy, please stop ordering things off the internet. Besides, you'd probably shoot your eye out!
Happy Trails,

There are squirrel guards to put on the birdfeeder to keep the critters away from the feeder. They only get the seed that the birds drop. That helped us a lot.
Then there is the feeder that spins the squirrels off the feeder. That looks like fun to watch!! We don't kill here either, even snakes.
Love ya, Fern
Buddy is a take-charge kinda guy! Squirrels are masters at getting bird seed. One thing I wonder is what about any babies that those relocated squirrels may have been feeding? Or is this rearing season? We had one of those squirrel-proof feeders, but they figured out how to get in! Right now, chasing squirrels is Cami's only exercise! SH
never trust a dog with a gun! :)
hope hubby is taking the critters way far away...i think they do have GPS!
good luck!
xo
we are finally getting some snow!
I had a squirrel problem in my bird feeder too - even got a squirrel proof feeder and now I have a picture of a squirrel hanging upside down in it eating the food. I don't know what to do about them. Hope that your trap works and they don't come back.
And Buddy, that assault rifle is a bit of "overkill" for squirrels. A nice little Scottie could probably catch them and bring them to you - you should check on getting one!
Oh dear, that looks like you mean business. We do the trap and release program with mice in the house. But we need to be sneaky because in Master Chew Sits it is illegal to transport wildlife. Oh get a life.
Slobbers,
Mango
Kit and Krew!!!! Thank you for the MONDAY morning LOL!!
Buddy with that rifle is absolutely hilarious!!!!
My hubby has a friend who traps squirrels too. He takes them to the grounds of the business from which he retired!! I guess that tells you what he thinks of that organization.
Tell the Great Hunter thanks for the BOL.

Relocating seems like a lot of trouble and I think probably an exercise in futility... but if it keeps hubby busy, what the heck.
Buddy - not a good idea... you'd probably shoot your eye out! HAHAH
We have squirrel problems, too.
Woofs and Wags,
Sitka
I have an admission - and I seem to be the only one who feels this way. I like squirrels. There it is - now you know my deepest secret. We use a baffle on our birdfeeding station pole to keep them off the feeder. Now they just hang out on the ground eating the seeds dropped by the birds.
Our young dog R loves squirrels too - tormenting them, that is.
Luckily our yard rarely sees any squirrels, we just dont have big enough trees. But we sure would like to catch one when we are out on our walks.

Hmmm....Buddy.....maybe you would like to try the M16, I learned to shoot when I traveled to Iraq? (Billy's Travels), Love you BIG GUY!, Billy
We have lots of squirrels too. We just put peanuts on the ground and they leave the bird seed alone. We feed EVERYTHING! They all get hungry.
I laughed out loud at the last picture!!!! You are mentioned in my blog post today!!!
Kit, a great deterrent we used to use was Cayenne Pepper in the bird seed. It doesn't harm the birds, but the squirrels don't like the hot spicey taste!
We're talking about 3 heaping tablespoons of the cayenne mixed in with about 20 lbs of seed.
Course, if you have a few Cajun Squirrels, they might like it! LOL
Kath
WOW! You look like one tough dog there! Run Squirrels, RUN!! hugs and wags, Mistaya
Hmmm, are you sure hubby isn't taking the snakes to a farm far away where they can run and play? I hear that happens sometimes!
We dont have squirrels here so we havent ever seen a live one! But we have lizards!!!! Hugs Joey and Kealani
Glad to see that your husband is feeding squirrels to the Copperheads at the same undisclosed location. Seems like a WIN WIN thingy!
Is that khovered in the Khanine Khonstitution?

We need you for homeland security around our castle too! The varmints are in all the trees and those devils are fast!
Kisses,

That's so cute with Buddy waiting with his gun!! He'll get those squirrels!! We don't have many around here for some reason. That is very nice of your husband to trap them and release them. My grandfather used to feed them. We would have a hundred in the yard and he had them trained to come right up to him. He always called them bunnies!!
That is so cute.. You will definitely get the job done with that..

BOL!!!!! Sound like you need some help from the troops of Operation Whack-a-squirrel!!!!
lotsa licks,
Miley
It seems like a squirrel can smell a seed from miles away! Those lil' critters can really cause havoc in feeders and in attics and in garages. Just as my sons who live in the country!
You have another award on arise 2 write.

Chuckling. We are laughing at the releasing of the squirrels at the same place as the snakes. Maybe the snakes will stay put because you are feeding them so well?
So if the snakes and the squirrels are dropped off at the same "undisclosed location" ....hmmm. If I were the squirrels I'd lobby for another drop-off zone promising not to return... - Abbey (we hate snakes!)
Our dogs are from Australia and they don't have squirrels in Australia...can I just say I severly underestimated just how much our Lab would LOVE them here in Michigan?? :)
LabLady-- Tell you hubby to spray paint the tail on the squirrel. My in law's had a similar issue with squirrels and my father in law decided to paint the tail before he took them on a ride to another location.. He had the same squirrel visit for quite some time. THen thay went on a really long ride.. never came back.Stay warm and safe from the storms that are rolling across the country. Good luck Julie. Extra prayers for everyone today..
groots
LabLady- glad to see your hubby's feeding those snakes, haha. We have a marauding squirrel, too- very clever. We ended up buying him peanuts to save bird seed! Lose one squirrel, another takes his place.
