Black and Proud

Say it Loud,
I'm a Black Lab
 and Proud!

~inspired by James Brown
(The Godfather of Soul)

My good Labra-buddy, Dexter, is hosting the most awesome contest, exclusively for black Labs!

Now, I'm  not usually one to brag, (heck, I don't even have all my teeth),
but my Rama says I am the most beautiful dog she has ever seen.
That's no small potatoes, cuz my Rama has seen a whole boatload of doggies in her 57+ years.

I wasn't always this cool, calm and collected.
When Rama discovered me in the shelter where she was volunteering, I was a wreck! I was in the last run, all by myself, barking like crazy, foaming at the mouth, and throwing myself onto the cage for attention.

I jumped on all the volunteer dog walkers, and Rama was the only who even tried to get near me. She recognized a dog in trouble and knew I needed to get out of the shelter quickly, before being labeled "aggressive".

Rama was aware of Black Dog Syndrome and she knew my chances of being adopted were not good. She and Dad decided to foster me, in an attempt to help me become more socialized and adoptable.

As soon as I got "home" and felt safe, I turned into my sweet, lovable, good-natured Labradorable self.

My beautiful, brown eyes melted Rama's heart and I had found my fur-ever home.

So what's so special about this black Labbie?

My shiny, black fur looks and feels like velvet.
I make grunting sounds like a little piggy when Rama rubs my soft ears. My long, wet tongue gives slobbery licks and Rama loves kissing my snooter and big, black, rubbery nose.
Just a look in my direction starts my tail thumping like a drum.
I'm goofy, gentle, playful, affectionate, loyal, smart, and happy.

Of course, I'm not perfect. I'm a tennis ball-a-holic, I'll roll in anything dead, and I've been known to eat some pretty disgusting things, as well.

But, one look at my smiling face and all is forgiven.

Think about it...
Have you ever met a black Lab you didn't like?

Our last dog was a black lab so I just couldn't bring myself to get another one this time. But Jack's dad was black so there's black there in him somewhere!

I had one black lab puppy, years ago, he was too rambunctious for my very small children, so my brother adopted him. He grew up and became a wonderful companion for my brother.

It was meant to be that day you met that beautiful black lab.

Oh Buddy, you really are cute!
Our little friend ASTA has also entered into Dexter's competition. He likes to discriminate against the non-black doggie-buddies! :)
I think you are gorgeous!...and I love that thumping tail on the floor - reminds me of another doggie I once knew.
Sending lotsaluv to you all.

I always love reading stories about someone who looks past what they see in front of them and see what's in the heart and soul of the dog and makes a difference for them.
By the way, I've never met a Black lab (or any black dog) that I didn't like--In fact, the first lab I ever met, was a black one--I was only 13 and I started out scared to death of Baron but when I gave him a treat we became forever friends!

Nope, never met one I did not love! You are such a handsome boy it is just so hard to understand how you found your self in such a sad state. It's all good now! I love your video... Looks an awful lot like things around here. Moose acting like you with the layzing and wagging and Mandy who looks like an older sassy in that video (though they don't look so similar in still photos) does that SAME EXACT barking like that. Moose does not do that so I was really confused by it. Mandy is not as Sassy as Sassy but when there is any excitement she does like to offer her two sense worth! He he he! You pups (and Zack too of course) are awesome!

We are very happy to find out that the neighbor next door adopted a black lab and she is growing bigger by the day! He's putting in a fence in his yard for her too! Lots of love and wags, Debbie and Holly

Gosh, Buddy, you kind of remind me of ME in that post. I, too, enjoy exercising just my tail whilst lounging about on the floor. Maybe you are part mastiff.

Slobbers,
mango

You are a most handsome guy, Buddy, and I wish you luck galore in this contest.

I spent three months in the slammer myself until my Mom came to rescue me. We are lucky, aren't we?
