Giddy Up!

CowGirl Sas is anxiously awaiting the premiere of Cowboy Happy Jack's Rootin' Tootin' Westward Ho! She was hoping to play the part of a sweet, little girl, but after checking out the cast of hunk-adorable cowboys, she's decided it might be more fun to play a bad girl!

Giddy Up, Fellas!

Thanks for all the great comments regarding natural treatments for thunderstorm phobia.
I gave Zack a melatonin Saturday and he rested most of the day. Fortunately, our storms never reached the severe range. If you would like to read the many great suggestions, click here

Sunday is for Family

I was an only child until my 10 birthday when my parents bought my sister, Brunie.  Brunie was a miniature, red Dachshund and my best friend from the first time I laid eyes on her.

My father was in the Marine Corps for 20 years, which meant many new schools for me. Being the new girl at school was no fun and then coming home to no siblings only made the situation worse.

When Brunie entered my life, I wasn't alone anymore. She spent countless hours riding in the backseat with me when Daddy
 received transfer orders to a new post.
Our longest transfer was from Albany, GA to Philadelphia, PA.
She was always there during the awkward period of making new friends and settling into new routines. Brunie was also a great way to make new friends, because everyone wanted to meet my sweet Doxie!

I felt guilty when I graduated from high school and left home for college, leaving Brunie behind. She had always been there for me and now I was deserting her.
Little did I know that she would easily turn her love and affection over to my mother, which not only thrilled Mother, but also helped Mother cope with the empty nest syndrome.

Brunie lived to the ripe old age of 15. At the time of her death she had no teeth, was blind, deaf and her face was completely white,
but she continued to be a faithful companion until the very end.
She was a wonderful sister.

Natural Treatment for Thunderstorm Phobia

We have the potential for severe thunderstorms over the weekend. As much as we need the rain, I hate the effect thunderstorms have on poor Zack.  He displays the usual anxious behavior of pacing, panting, trembling, and seeking a hiding spot.

An article in The Whole Dog Journal reports that one of the most effective treatments for thunderstorm phobia is melatonin, an over-the-counter hormone used by humans to treat insomnia.

Have any of you used melatonin for this purpose and if so, would you please share your results?
Thanks!

Some Healing Thoughts, Please

A couple of our doggie buddies aren't feeling well and need some pawsitive thoughts and healing vibes sent their way.
Our low-rider friend, Brodie, has a sprained leg and will be set with a splint. As you can see, Brodie doesn't have much leg in the first place. I hope he is able to manuever with the split on his cute, little, short legs.

This is our cousin pup, Abby.

Abby is a rescue pup from Birmingham, AL.
Abby's visit to the doggie cardiologist revealed that she has fluid around her heart and is in danger of suffering heart failure.
She's a young, sweet, active girl who enjoys playing
with her sister Lucy, and running with her mom and dad, activities which are not permitted right now.
Both Lucy and Abby are confused and heart-broken over the current situation.

Thank you for remembering our special furiends in your thoughts and prayers.

SPAM

Has anyone else received this SPAM in your comments?
 I've received it about a gazillion times.
Maybe it says I've won a million dollars and I can't read who I'm suppose to contact to claim my prize, just my luck!

I'm feeling  much better now that I'm home from the hospital and I'm happy to be rid of my sick appendix!

Jack is right, the best medicine is puppy kisses.

When an illness knocks you on your ass, you should stay and relax for a while before trying to get back up.

Mom is home from the hospital. She is walking slowly and smells like she's  been to the VET, you know the "medicinal" smell.  We're helping Dad take care of Mom and she should be feeling better soon.

Mom says "Thank you" for all the positive, healing thoughts.

Emergency Appendectomy

Greetings from Dog Daze Daddy,

Kit has been having some pain in her tummy for a couple of weeks now. Monday she saw her doctor who set up a CT Scan the very next day. After the scan yesterday as we were driving home her doctor's office called and told her to go directly to the Emergency Room - she had a ruptured appendix. They removed her appendix last night about 8 pm.  She has experienced a good deal of pain and nausea and has a high temperature on top of that. She is pretty miserable right now and is looking forward to going home soon. We'll keep you posted.

I am pleased to announce the hummingbirds have returned to our little spot on the migration route and right on time, I might add. Last year's first hummer sighting was April 9, and this year Hubby spotted 2 males at one feeder on April 10.

Daddy
(shooting a peace sign)
Tybee Island, Ga

I've posted this photo in the past, as it's one of my favorites. I can remember taking that picture as if it were yesterday.
I thought about Daddy quite a bit this past week while at the beach.
Daddy grew up in cold, snowy Erie and he loved living on the Georgia coast. He loved the seafood, mild climate, and hanging out with my surfing friends and me on Tybee Island.
I remember one particular occassion, before I had my driver's license, Daddy loaded up a bunch of my friends (and surfboards), stopped by Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the ride, and got us to the beach before sunrise for a surfing competion.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's great to be home w/ Hubby and the pups. I came home from the beach w/ fever blisters all over my lip. Sun and/or stress always does that to me.
My top lip sticks out so much from the blisters, I look like Lisa Simpson.
Chloe the (not so much) Beach Dog
There was a time, not too long ago, when there were as many dogs as people on Mexico Beach, FL. We've been here 4 days and have only seen one dog.
This is Chloe, the 9 year old Beagle from Michigan.
Chloe is staying in the condo next to us. Her mom says Chloe used to love playing in the sand and water, but is now content spending her days lazing on the deck.
I know 3 wild and crazy Labradors who would be cracker dogs if they were here!
For Mature Eyes Only
Where Easter Eggs Really Come From
~~~~~~~~~
The girlfriends and I are leaving tomorrow for the Florida Gulf.

This trip does not allow husbands, children, grandchildren, pets, or blogging.
It is all about the Ladies!
We will sunbathe, talk, beach-comb, talk, read, talk, eat lots of seafood, talk, nap, talk, drink some lime green libations, giggle, and talk!
School teachers know how to kick back and relax!
Even old, retired ones.

Let me know if you would like us to drink a toast in your honor.
We'll be more than happy to add you to our long list.

Not all who wander are lost.

Mom has the suitcases out again, only this time she's packing bathing suits, shorts, flip flops and suntan lotion. I'm guessing she's not heading back to Anchorage to visit Ms. Ina and the Pups.

Buddy and Zack think she's going to the Gulf of Mexico with her girlfriends for Spring Break, but I know she would never go to the beach without me. Right, Mom?

Mom?

MOM!?!
