The house is empty again, without Connie. She was a wonderful house guest and Buddy and I loved having her here. She and Buddy spent each morning sitting on the front porch together, cheering me on as I walked my 6 laps, up and down our long, steep driveway. Buddy joins me the first lap, primarily to take a dip in the creek at the bottom. My current goal has been to walk every day in June, and I haven't missed a day yet. YAY!

We miss you Ms. Connie!
***BTW, sorry I haven't visited blogs this week...I promise to get caught up on everyone soon!

Company's A' Comin'

In the past week Buddy and I have entertained several guests.

Last Wednesday evening a couple of girlfriends came over for wine and cheese; Thursday evening my former college roomie came up for a sleepover (fun!); Saturday I invited my wonderful neighbors over for dinner; and tomorrow my dear high school friend, Connie, is coming from Savannah for a visit.

We're staying busy, in an attempt not to miss our star-gazers, who are having a wonderful time!!! When I last spoke to Hubby, the topic of conversation was the galactic equator and dark nebulae, exciting stuff to astronomers!

Has your Hooman ever frozen a water bottle for you?
Ooooooh, it feels so good on a hot day!

Icy cold on your lips...

And when you get tired of chewing and licking on the bottle,

you can really cool off by laying on it!

Update on Gumbie

You may recall the story of Gumbie, Warren Palfrey's sleddog I met at this year's Iditarod. According to Kate, Warren's wife, Gumbie doesn't have the heart of a sleddog and would rather be a couch potato.

I don't know the details, but somehow Gumbie was transported from the Palfrey's kennel in Yellowknife, NWT to Cindy Gallea's kennel in Seely Lake, Montana, where he was boarded until 2 weeks ago when his new owner, Doug, drove from Oklahoma to pick him up. (Whew, what a long sentence!)

Gumbie and Doug are spending several weeks bonding, at 11,000 feet, in Doug's cabin in CO. I had a call from Doug today reporting that Gumbie is eating well, gaining weight and loving cabin life. Doug has 2 other dogs at home so, hopefully, this time together will help make the transition easier once they arrive in OK, later this summer.

I'll keep you posted on this wonderful story with a happy ending.

Pool's Open

Buddy has appeared a bit "down dumps" the past few days. He walks up to the empty dog lot several times a day, but never goes in. I'd love to get inside his head and know what he's thinking, other than "FOOD"! I wish I could explain where the others have gone and that they will return to us.

In an attempt to cheer him, I took out the doggie pool. Actually it's the only pool. I am pleased to announce that Buddy did not piddle in the pool this year! Yay Buddy, you're growing up!

Report from New Mexico

I spoke to Hubby this weekend.
He was excited to report they found the most incredible, remote campsite in the Gila National Forest. There's only one problem, it's rainy and cloudy, so no star-gazing!

Since it's been raining, he and the dogs are stuck in the RV together. The dogs sleep all day and Hubby has rearranged every drawer, closet and cabinet in the RV out of shear boredom. He isn't a happy camper and said something about heading home soon if the weather doesn't improve...

Oh no! I have girlfriends coming to visit. Wish for clear skies in New Mexico!

The first week "home alone" has gone by quickly, due in part to all the excitement we've had around here. After the black snake visit and onslaught of squirrels, my air conditioner died. I was without AC for 3 long, hot and humid days and nights. The AC was repaired Friday and Saturday morning on our walk, Buddy and I noticed a tree had fallen across the driveway.

I don't consider myself a wimp at all, but I cannot start a chain saw. That's probably a good thing, because I don't need to be operating a chain saw up here in the woods by myself.
Our wonderful neighbors came over and had the tree removed by the end of the day. Thanks Guys!

I'm hoping this week will be less exciting and for clear skies in NM.

Buddy is a pretty laid back fellow and has decided to call his Friday entries, "I'm Juz Sayin'".
