Take A Moment to Remember...

Although no sculptured marble should rise to their memory, nor engraved stone bear record of their deeds,
yet will their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored.

Monday's Memory Mosaic ~Japan

In 1990, I was selected to participate in a 3 week Japanese cultural exchange program for Georgia teachers.
The purpose of the program was to help prepare Georgia teachers for the influx of Japanese students into their school systems.
The exchange program provided an understanding of Japan's education
system and culture through school visits, cultural activities, a home-stay visit, and exchanges with educators and students.

Teachers (sensei) are highly respected in Japan and we were treated like royalty, staying in the nicest hotels and resorts. We traveled extensively by private buses, planes, ferries, and the Shinkansen (bullet train).

My favorite part of the trip was my home-stay visit with the Yoshida family in the city of Kagoshima, on the island of Kyushu.
Although I spoke no Japanese and they spoke very little English, we became  dear friends in a short time.  The Yoshida's home was small, but their hearts were large and kind.

I fell in love with the people, culture, and natural beauty of Japan, which  better prepared me for the beautiful Japanese student, Fusako, I taught the following school year.

Tag, You're It!

Ouch, I've  been tagged!
Yes, I've been tagged by Miz Liz from Caribou Crackers.
The rules state that I am to look in the 8th folder in my picture files and publish the 8th photo from that folder.

I'd like you to meet Theodore.

I hope furry, little rodents don't make you squeamish!

Zack's Zoomies

Our long awaited walk to the creek was a huge disappointment as there was barely enough water to soak dog bellies.

Fortunately, it doesn't take much water to make Labs happy.
A mud puddle brings smiles to their faces.

After Zack's trip to the creek he wanted to share his excitement with Sassy, who had not yet been to the creek.
You can see her patience wearing thin by the end of the video.

Happy Mother's Day Weekend!

Mom looked out the kitchen window
and saw this on the garage roof!

Sneaky Black Snake was headed to the Northern Cardinals' nest in the pyracantha.

Dad was successful in sending the snake in another direction this time,
but I fear the eggs' days are numbered.

Yes, we are all watching our step when out in the yard!

(Hey Ina, aren't you glad you live in Alaska w/ no snakes?)

Mom apologizes for being MIA from commenting on blogs. Since she got a good Dr.'s report she has been trying to do 3 weeks' worth of yardwork and spring cleaning in 3 days.
Hopefully, she'll get caught up soon.

Health is the greatest gift, Contentment the greatest wealth,
Faithfulness the best relationship.
~Buddha

This is Buddy, and I'm happy to report that we have all three:
Health, Contentment, and Faithfulness here at Dog Daze.

Mom is feeling much better (health), after her appendectomy, and she spent the weekend working outside.

Mom said she didn't need any canine snoopervision, so we were content to lie in the shade and watch her work.

Of course, Dad, ever faithful, was close by to offer his assistance.

Mom spread pinestraw, planted flowers, pulled weeds, and cleaned all the pollen off the screen porch.

Mom's post-op Dr's appointment is today. We hope she is told to resume all regular activities, including walking her adorable Labra-pups down the driveway to the creek.

Monday's Mosaic Memory

In 2006, a friend who had a 17 month old daughter, gave birth to triplet girls.
Can you imagine?
Four little girls under the age of two?

They were so desperate for extra hands, they even allowed me (never a mom, myself) to help out once a week.

Prior to this experience, the only diaper I had changed was Betsy Wetsy's.

You can see how the girls are growing into lovely, intelligent little girls  (just like their mother) by clicking here.

Hi Friends,
Kit here. Like you, I am extremely saddened and disturbed by the loss of lives (human and wildlife), loss of livelihoods, and the long term adverse effects caused by the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon.

I respect your opinions and would like to hear from you on this subject.
Should BP be held responsible for this environmental crisis? Any suggestions on how to prevent another catastrophic oil rig accident?
Thank you,
~K
