Monday's Memory-Comet, Puppy Days

Hubby and I had been together a year (1992) when we decided it was time for children.

I've always said, "If I could have puppies, I'd stay pregnant."
Hard as we tried...no pups!

So, Hubby surprised me with a visit to a neighbor's house, who just happened to have a 5 week old Litter of Love.

Comet was my first Labrador Retriever. He was the cutest little furball I'd ever seen and it was love at first sight.
Comet was an "only dog" for over a year and my constant companion.
As a matter of fact, he went to Florida with us when Hubby and I got married.

Comet taught me that Labs are friendly, loving, playful, goofy, patient, loyal, and smart. My heart was broken when, at age 10, he developed a brain tumor and crossed The Rainbow Bridge.

Voting has begun in Tucker's Sit Stay Competition.

Check out all the great contestants and cast your vote!
Sassy is entry #32 on the right side bar.

Happy Trails,

Awwww. What a sweet, sweet story. Amazing how dogs touch our lives in so many ways. Give your pups a kiss for me, and thank you for this wonderful blog. I am thinking of starting Monday Memories for Sierra. Would you mind if I used your idea? They have been some of my favorite blogs.

Comet's an adorable pup! I love your term 'Litter of Love'!!

Sadly though, I seem to have more luck with pups than with babies.. not that I don't love my 2 furkids, it's just that I thought it'd be nice to have my baby grow up knowing and loving (and being loved ) by my 2 furkids.

What a sweet tribute! There's always something special about your first puppy...My "first baby" was Tod who only lived to the age of 5--He died from cancer. But he gave us our love for the Retriever breed and opened the door for all who have come after him.

**I will cast my vote for Sassy!

It is so hard to lose a friend so faithful and loyal, the eyes, the looks they gave you that stays with you. All you have is great memories and you know Comet had the best life he could with you. Now you have three pairs of eyes giving you that same adoring look.

Labrapups are the best. I am momma's first labradog ever and she says I am the smartest, most lovable, easy going doggie she ever had.

Of course first pups always have a special place in the hearts of their humans.

Kisses,
Dexter

Labs are such great dogs. Good thing you have a really big area for them to get outside and run around. While my first pet was a cat, dogs have always held the number one spot for pets in my heart.

What cute puppy Comet was!
Funny how they are just like children and just wiggle their way into your heart as one of the family!

Sniff, sniff, so sad he passed over the Rainbow Bridge so young!

Sassy, Zack and Buddy should thank him for breaking you in for future labs! :)

Thanks for telling us about Comet. As sad as you probably still are, at least you had the honor of those years with him. You were both lucky.

Comet wouldn't be an appropriate name for my high speed shooting star - R!

Thanks for sharing your memories of Coment. Stella's first 'love' was a lab. It's sad that Coment passed over the rainbow bridge at only 10, but those 10 years spent with you were filled with love, that's the important thing to remember.

Hugs,
Shannon

Totally sweet family. Furry, fun and they sometimes follow instructions! What is an iditarod? Is that the dog race? Do you do that?

Oh Comet, so adorable! Life is just too short for these sweet labs. How bittersweet.
