Don't be a Bully...

Be a Buddy!

As a retired teacher, my mom believes this is one of our biggest problems in schools and our society today.
Be a part of the solution by setting a good example.

Ignorance breeds fear.

Fear breeds hate.

 Hate breeds violence.

I wonder how much shows like American Idol, where people are held up to public criticism, have to do with children learning to be bullies.

I am totally with the previous comment. We encourage bullying with shows that make mockery into entertainment. Great post. Now I just need to get Mango to read it so he stops picking on the poor little lab.

Mom taught middle and high school. She said the bullying was just heartless, especially at the middle school level. The school at which she taught actually had one young boy take his life last year due to bullying - that was several years after she taught there. But it is so very sad and yet so very common.

Great post.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I have to say, without much personal experience of bullying, and no kids to worry about, it is not something I have read much into.

Bullying is one of the reasons we homeschool. Keeping them home seems to be the only way I can keep them safe. We're new to your blog--following along too!! Hope you'll bark on by Brando and Bogart!!

I will be one of Buddy's Buddies! The problem is not new, as you know. I can recall being the target of hurtful remarks as probably most kids can. I always think of Terry and his stutter. Today, though, it is beyond remarks; and actual campaigns of abuse are launched in school. The very worst part is that children cannot get away from it because of the internet and cell phones. We have had at least two recent cases of suicide that are at least tangentially related to bullying. This behavior is often learned at home and glorified in the media. Sorry to run on, but it strikes a nerve!

Oh yes, Buddy, bullying has to stop NOW!! I drove my son, who was in special ed, every day to school for years even though there was a school bus, because of the bullying going on! Then when he got to school it was rough! Kids have to stop being cruel to others that are not just like them! Everybody deserves a good education without fear! The same goes for society! Hugs, Kathy

Bullying is a massive problem and different schools deal with it with different levels of effectiveness.

Our worst experience ended with my wife threatening to break legs - the bully's, and his parents'! (She is not someone to be messed with).

Since then we have deal with schools that are much better in this respect - one even had a full time Police liaison officer on campus, while the other had a totally fearless head master...

I agree that bullies come in all ages. It's the worst for kids so I see why you care so much as a retired teacher. I recently had a disagreement with some people involved in a political issue (we were all on the same side but I disagreed with them about tactics). Two of them flamed me endlessly in a google group - and I thought to myself - *this* is what teenage bullies do when they grow up! Fortunately, at my age, I don't care what others think but I can imagine how horrible it would be for an underconfident child.

That's a long way of saying that I love your message!

Bullies stink! My last foster pal was a Bully so I experienced it first hand and it was not fun! Fortunately we swapped the bully for a Buddy cuz the new foster Buddy is cool.
You are good to pass on this important message though. Momma grew up in the "sticks and stones..." days and knows that is BS, most bullying happens with words not sticks and stones.
