Bear Watchdog

The bears came visiting again yesterday evening and this time I had the camera ready. Mother Bear was on the ground and would have joined Baby Bear if it had not been for my ferocious bear watchdog, Sassy. I don't know who was more surprised, the bear or Sassy.
There was an article in our local paper a couple weeks ago about the unusual amount of bear sightings this year, especially in our part of the county. One neighbor reported that a baby bear came to her house everyday to nap on her cool garage floor. It saddens me to know the bears are hungry, but what a treat to see this on the deck.

Happy Trails,

Thanks for visiting us. I had 3 dogs before Ernie & Sasha (a story or 2 for another day) Anyhow, 2 Siberian Huskies and a retired racing Greyhound. She used to walk all 3. She did have a coupler that had 3. It worked well.
That is something - a bear on your deck. Good video.

Hey there Ms-K
Thank you so much for that! That was truly Awesome!!! We don't usually watch videos, but I just had to watch this one when I saw it was a bear.
It's interesting that they are scared of the dogs...Thank goodness for that, otherwise you would have a huge problem on your hands!
Nevertheless I suppose it must be scary too, because all wild animals need to be respected. Thanks again...really lovely post!!!

Amazing!!

Our Mom would love to see a bear. All of our neighbors have seen one, but it never visits us. We've seen where it has been though.

Have a wonderful Thursday.

Sad about the baby bear napping on the cool garage floor... wonder where Mama was.

I am an early riser so I watched your video at 4:30 am (my time). All 3 of my dogs nearby. Once Sassy started barking all three dogs alerted, started barking loudly and ran, barking loudly, into our yard to alert all the sleeping folks about the bear on your deck! It was hysterical! But seriously, wonderful video. I am going to turn off the sound and watch it again!!!

You're right.. that's really cool, and sad at the same time. I wish they had more land to roam around and forage on, especially when people kill them for coming too close to humans. I understand the danger, but the poor animals don't know any better.

I love how he scales your deck though on the way down.. must have some loooong claws!

We have almost daily (or should I say nightly,) bear visits too. Ruby likes to let us know when she smells them about 30 minutes away. I can't tell you how "great" that is at 3 A.M.!

How cool is that? It is sad it is they are so hungry they will venture so close to human territory. Good girl Sassy-protectin' your family is not an easy job but I see that you did well in scarin' the bear away.

Be careful-all of you not to get too close!

Poor Bears, I am so sorry they are so hungry!!!! They deserve to eat too!! It is a bad thing that they have to come to the bird feeder to eat! Too many mouths to feed....
Love you all, bambi and Fern

Wow, how cool to see a bear on one's deck! Most I've ever had was a skunk on my front porch! My mother-in-law had a wild turkey in her back yard and I've seen deer here in town.

That is wonderful and scary at the same time. Don't the dogs go crazy when the bears are around?

I feel the same way- very cool yet sad at the same time. What an amazing sight to see. Bears have always been an animal I never expect to see up close, so I can imagine how amazing/scary/interesting it must be to have one come visit you!

Oh my! That bear would be scary if I saw it on the porch. It was funny, Momma jumped when your pupper started barking! She is used to hearing smaller dogs bark...not labs! Sorry I haven't been commenting much....still trying to get caught up from when I was sick.
