This week's musical memory is by a group with whom I happen to have a personal connection.
See if you can follow this:
My first college roommate's brother was college roommates with Dennis Yost at Jacksonville University.
(Kind of a stretch, huh?)
The Classics IV was a band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1965. They are given credit for beginning the "soft southern rock" sound. The band and its lead singer Dennis Yost are principally known for the hits "Spooky" and "Stormy", both released in 1968 and both of which have become cover standards. (wikipedia)
My favorite song by The Classics IV is "Everyday With You Girl", but I thought this would be more appropriate today.
My grandfather and I had a special relationship. When USMC sent Daddy to Korea in 1960, Mother and I lived with my grandparents for 13 months. I was the only grandchild at that time and Grandpa spoiled me rotten. I loved every minute of it!
I'm referring to the fact that there has been too much work and not enough doggie-centered activities around here lately.
The Peeps call it "home improvements."
I call it a lot of unnecessary noise and puppy neglect.
Anyway, I convinced them it was time for a break. (If you saw Saturday's post, you'll agree, Rama's been sniffing too much Cabot stain. So, we've loaded up the RV and are headed off into the wild blue yonder.
Blood, Sweat & Tears, the group's self-titled second album, was produced by James William Guercio and released in late 1968. The album was much more pop-oriented, featuring decidedly fewer compositions from within the band. (David Clayton-Thomas, however, had already mounted a solo career as a singer/songwriter over this same time period, beginning with an album released in 1969 by Decca).[1] The record quickly hit the top of the charts, winning Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards over The Beatles' Abbey Road, among other nominees.wikipedia
I'd like to dedicate today's song to Ms. Kim at Golden Pines, Ms. Phyl, and everyone who helps with rescuing and fostering. Thank you for all the love and comfort you provide.
Some of you may be asking, "Sassy, why are you so excited today?"
Well, today is no ordinary day.
Today is DogDaze Daddy's birthday!
This week's 1970 melodic memory is dedicated to DDD (DogDaze Daddy), who loves Sly and The Family Stone.
"Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", released in December 1969, is a 1970 hit single recorded by Sly and the Family Stone, recognized as one of the greatest and most influential funk songs of all time. The song, double a-sided with "Everybody Is a Star", reached number one on the soul single charts for five weeks, and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. wikipedia
It took Flannery several years to mature, and he often challenged my patience, but he was one of the friendliest, funniest, most intelligent and affectionate dogs I have ever owned.
If you've ever owned or known an Irish Setter, you can relate to Gary Larson's cartoon.
I taught primary school for 27 years, and loved every minute of it. I am now enjoying retirement on 30+ acres in the north Georgia mountains with my husband and Labrador Retrievers.
When we aren't hanging out in the woods, we enjoy traveling in our RV w/ the dogs. One of our favorite destinations is the Pacific Northwest, especially the Oregon and Washington coasts.
My parents are deceased, I am an only child and have no children; therefore, my husband and dogs are my family.
My blog and blogging friends have taken the place of my classroom and students.
You could say, I've gone from SCHOOL DAYS to DOG DAZE.

"I expect to pass through the world but once. Any good therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any creature, let me do it now.. Let me not defer it, for I shall not pass this way again." Stephen Grellet (1773-1855)
