My first college roommate's brother was college roommates with Dennis Yost at Jacksonville University.

(Kind of a stretch, huh?)

The Classics IV was a band formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1965. They are given credit for beginning the "soft southern rock" sound. The band and its lead singer Dennis Yost are principally known for the hits "Spooky" and "Stormy", both released in 1968 and both of which have become cover standards. (wikipedia)

My favorite song by The Classics IV is "Everyday With You Girl", but I thought this would be more appropriate today.

When USMC sent Daddy to Korea in 1960,  Mother and I lived with my grandparents for 13 months. I was the only grandchild at that time and Grandpa spoiled me rotten. 
I loved every minute of it!

"You've Made Me So Very Happy" is a song that was written by Brenda Holloway, Patrice Holloway, Frank Wilson and Berry Gordy, and was released first as a single in 1967 by Brenda Holloway on the Tamla label. The song was later a huge hit for jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1969.

Blood, Sweat & Tears, the group's self-titled second album, was produced by James William Guercio and released in late 1968. The album was much more pop-oriented, featuring decidedly fewer compositions from within the band. Some of you may be asking, "Sassy, why are you so excited today?"

Well, today is no ordinary day.

Today is DogDaze Daddy's birthday!

This week's 1970 melodic memory is dedicated to DDD (DogDaze Daddy), who loves Sly and The Family Stone.

"Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", released in December 1969, is a 1970 hit single recorded by Sly and the Family Stone, recognized as one of the greatest and most influential funk songs of all time. The song, double a-sided with "Everybody Is a Star", reached number one on the soul single charts for five weeks, and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1970. wikipedia

Farewell, Hummers!

This was our last "resident" hummer of the season.

 For the past several weeks Squeak sat atop the Japanese Maple tree, guarding the feeder,
through extreme heat, rain, and wind.

I haven't seen her since last weekend, however, I have seen several visitors stopping by for a quick drink at the feeder.

It's always sad to see them go and I find myself wishing  we had hummingbirds in our area year round.

But then, I guess, it wouldn't be such a treat to see them  April through October.

This week's musical blast from the past is by one of my favorite artists from the 60's and 70's, B.J. Thomas.

"Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" is a song written by Hal David and Burt Bacharach for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song. David and Bacharach also won Best Original Score. The version by B. J. Thomas was number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States in January 1970 for four weeks and the first number-one single of the 1970s. It also spent seven weeks atop the U.S. adult contemporary chart. ^(wikipedia)
