Michael Vick Signs with Eagles

Vick is getting a second chance in the NFL.
Can dog lovers give him a second chance?
The City of Brotherly Love is known more for its nastiness than a forgiving nature.

Please share your opinion on whether he deserves a second chance.

I think what Michael Vick did was deplorable. He so disappointed me. When he was a VA Tech, I was one of his biggest fans and even followed him to the NFL - and I am not a football watcher - I just wanted to see a VA boy make it in the NFL.

His interview on 60 Minutes last night was a sham - he had a smirk on his face the whole time. And the mark of a liar!! Every time he started talking about how he loved animals and was going to help kids learn kindness to animals - he was shaking his head from side to side. That in itself shows that he doesn't agree with what he says.

I'm sure prison was scary to him, but I don't know if it will keep him from being involved with a "sport" that he has seen since he was 8 years old. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't trust him. My husband has been trying to convince me that Michael has paid his debt to society - well maybe to society, but what about all of those animals that he abused - he'll never pay that debt in full.

Hi Buddy, Sassy and Zack,
Madi and I say NO.. IF he not been caught doing the unspeakable, he'd probably still be doing it...we expect mega bucks are making him appear to be sorry for his actions.

This whole thing just makes me sick. All of it just proves there is nothing more important than the almighty dollar. These "pseudo celebrities" get away with murder literally! SH

After that interview, I'm just not convinced that he is quite aware - deep down in his gut - of how much those dogs suffered - that dogs HURT - far more than I believe he has ever hurt.

He does not deserve a 2nd chance w/ the NFL at this time making lucrative money and being put in a position to be admired by kids. What bothers me about his behavior was it wasn't a "random" act, it was years of cruel and torturous behavior to dogs. I have not heard comments and remorse to make me believe he is changed. He is just sorry he got caught. I put some shirts up on my nature store slamming Michael Vick and I am donating 50% of the profits to the ASPCA to prevent cruelty to animals. I am so appalled that Michael Vick was allowed back in the NFL.

I am torn (no pun intended). I tend to be a trusting person and believe what people say (as in his remorse), but I don't think I can fathom someone capable of doing what he did changing since it seems like those are the actions of a defective or totally lacking soul. I believe that he has served his time and am glad he is using his notoriety to bring attention to this issue (even his bad actions did that!). However, I would like to think the NFL has higher standards than that. There are lots of talented guys trying hard to get where he was and if they had a zero tolerance for such non-sense (including other crimes like domestic violence which is common among these athletes) then I think they could raise the social bar without lowering the skill bar... So I am willing to listen to what he says but don't think the NFL should be falling over themselves to take in criminals like him and so many others.

We have mixed feelings. It was terrible what he did & supported. But maybe he can help change things. Like reformed gang members do sometimes.
We can only hope & pray.

No, I do not, especially in a profession where he could be a role model to young kids.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the consequences of NOT giving someone a second chance are. But, there has to be something fundamentally wrong with someone who would be involved in dog-fighting to begin with.
I guess that all we can ask is that he makes the best use of his second chance!

We residents of the City of Brotherly Love--meaning just us, of course--aren't so quick to offer a second chance. We'd like to see some action before millions start rolling in--and we're not talkin about action on the football field.

We will not be rooting for the Eagles anymore.

I personally think that every human deserves a second chance. People make stupid, cruel, dumb mistakes all the time and hopefully when they are confronted by people with forgiving hearts they can learn from their mistakes and change their ways.

I know my opinion is not looked favorably upon and although I am disgusted by what he did, I do think everyone deserves a second chance.

Love and forgiveness can change the world.

Hi Kit! Just catching up from being away for the weekend.

The picture of your Grandma and Brunie is just adorable!!

As for Michael Vick/Dog Murderer: No! Those dogs did not get any mercy why should he? There was no consideration given to them why should he get a second chance! There are those who will agree that Vick was severely punished and sanctioned, but we need sports heros who young fans can look up to. Michael Vick has too much blood on his hands and will never qualify as an inspirational sports hero for young fans. What the heck is Eagles Management thinking?

I have no respect for anyone who does not know respect at all!

He belongs in the kennel, one which I wouldn't use.

You know how I feel. He does not need to go back to jail - but why let him be elevated to hero status again already?

NO....he does not deserve a second chance. The poor dogs he tortured from 2001 through 2007 didn't get a second chance. He knowing did this for many years. What a loser.
