Ms. Kit's Class and Their Special Reading Buddies
The last five years I taught, my classes participated in The Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program.
R.E.A.D. dogs are registered therapy animals who volunteer with their owner/handlers as a team, going to schools, libraries and other settings as reading companions for children.
I was the first teacher in the county school system to volunteer for the program, not surprising, huh?
At the end of the first year, the program was so successful, (students improved fluency and self-confidence while reading aloud), other teachers volunteered for the program.

Welcome back!!! We love your new header...it's beautiful!! That's what you are supposed to do on a break...nothing at all!!! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
I was sad to see there was only one READ program in my entire state. It sounds like such a great program.
However, if you ever want to start a JUMP program (Jumping Up on Many People), I have someone in mind who would be perfect!
Dogs truly are man's best friend!
How rewarding that must have been for you.Great pics!
Bellaboo ;0)
Awesome Program!!!
I'm glad your back! sometimes we all just need to chill out and do nothing :)
Don't be embarrassed! Sometimes nada is just the ticket for rejuvenation! What a great header you have come back with! And the memory about R.E.A.D. is fantastic! A lovely reminder of the power of our dogs to calm!

PeeS Doing Zero, Zip, Zilch and Nada sometimes is always a good thing :)
That sounds like an awesome program! And FUN! Only thing about having a break from blogging, it can be a bit hard to start up again, I know! lol
WHOOPEEE from Madi and Mom and Madi says if the had a long beautiful neck and knew how to howl she'd join you in the jubilation.
We have heard lots of good things about the Dog Reading program. Ms. K, Of course you were first and successful at it BECAUSE you are a believer in all the good Animals can do....unfortunately not everyone believes.....
You know Mom thinks animals are the Cats/dogs Meow/bark

That's exactly what I'm hoping Cabana will become--a reading buddy! I think she'd be so great at it because she adores children. That's great that you, as a teacher, were able to participate.
I love your new header!
WELCOME BACK! We missed you! I can hear you howling all the way to Minnesota! Great Monday Memory!
I too have been a bit AWOL on the blogs. And it has been so rainy! We are expecting rain all week! The dogs did not get a walk yesterday and Halle loves her walks. I will probably take everyone for a car ride later. I was just saying to Ron that I imagine people who have out of town company this week are probably ripping their hair out!
My dogs are great reading buddies!! Glad all is well in GA, hope the heat has subsided a bit! xoxo
Welcome BACK. This was a grrrreat return post.
That's a great pic of you and the class and another great header too!!! Ha rooooo - we are wooing along with you there.
Our human niece just did a program at the library where she got to sit with a pup and read him a story - it was just great - now we just need to get her to read to us too.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
we got Baily into a program training for that before we left NorCal.
Don't forget, we are changing our blog this Friday. Please update your reader to follow dogisgodinreverse.com
That is great news! And just proves that we doggies can do everything!!!
Zero, Zip, Zilch Nada sounds perfect!
What a great program!!! Would have loved to have had one at my old school. Breaks are good, feel refreshed? We did miss you!
