Update on Fusako

As the news from Japan continues to be bleak, I have been relieved to resume contact with my former student, Fusako.

The last time I had been in touch with Fusako, she was living and working in Tokyo. When I heard the tragic news, my thoughts were immediately for her safety.

Through the help of good friends, Susu and Sharon, and Facebook, I was able to "find" Fusako.

I am happy to report that she no longer lives in Tokyo, and has returned to her home on the beautiful, southern island of Kyushu.

Every time Fusako writes, she expresses her gratitude to everyone who is assisting Japan during this very difficult time.
I'm not sure she has a good sense of how much attention and coverage their disaster is getting around the world.

I have not seen Fusako since she came back to the United States to visit, in 1999. (Is that the correct date, Fusako?)

I was very pleased, and not the least surprised, to see she has grown into a beautiful, young lady.

What  a cutie. She's 11 years old.

I asked Fusako for information on donating directly to a local animal rescue organization. She sent me this link.

I recognized many years ago that Fusako was a very special young lady, and I would recognize that pretty smile anywhere!

Even though she is no immediate danger, I still worry about those nuclear power plants and what they may be doing to their water and soil. The people in Japan need out help and our prayers. Fusako too, of course. I really like the "pretty in pink" picture, she is such a lovely woman now.

Nice post, K

It's so great that you're able to contact your friend. I hope we keep all of those affected in our thoughts, as it's far to easy to move on when these events are forefront in the news every day.

Hello Kit!! Its been awhile and I hope you are doing well! I love Facebook just for the reasons you've mentioned--I'm so glad you were able to find Fusako and reconnect with her! She is a lovely lady, and I am sure that having someone like you in her life is a blessing to her!!

We continue our prayers for all those in Japan, 2 and 4 legged that they have food and shelter, and most of all have peace in knowing that so many people are concerned about them.

Ms. K thank you for the update....
Fusako is indeed a beautiful young woman...and just think you had a significant part in shaping the woman she is today. Knowin you, I'm sure your classroom had a pet which you used to teach the children to love and respect animals. Rifu is a precious puppy.

Fusako if you are reading this God bless you and your beautiful country.

Fusako is such a pretty young lady!
I wonder if she went back to Japan with a little Georgian accent after being in your class? :)

My heart and prayers go out to the people of Japan! So much to rebuild and those damaged nuclear plants are so dangerous! May the experts get them contained ASAP!

So happy to hear you have found Fusako and that she is safe. She is a very pretty young lady, and her pup is just adorable! Rifu looks like a puppy, I would never have guessed 11 years old. Great photos all around!

The animals and humans of Japan continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.
