The news at the alternative vet was not good...
Buddy has a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
He might need surgery, but Dr. Mary, who I liked very much, suggested trying prolotherapy first.
(Area where he was clipped before receiving injections.)
If he responds well to the therapy, he will receive another round of injections in 10 days.
In the meantime, he is on pain meds, receiving minimal exercise, and being waiting on hand and "paw."
Such a sweet boy!

We do have some happy news...
We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to one of my oldest friends, Ms. Susan!
By old, I mean we have known each other since I was in high school.
I guess that would make us old, as in elderly, too.
Have a wonderful day, S!

I hope the prolotherapy works! Not walking much, will he need a stool softener or whatever the dog equivalent is, so that he won't get bound up? Poor Buddy, glad he's on pain meds, I know I would want to be.
Happy Birthday to your friend, Ms Susan!
Oh no! Poor Buddy :( We're sending the power of the paw to him in hopes that he feel all better soon.

Buddy, you poor thing. You labradogs are always getting hurt what with the way you fling your wee selves about. Now you take your medicine and do try and rest, OK? I know it is hard, but it is really important.
I will be thinking of you and your torn labraleg.
Slobbers,
Mango
Oh Buddy, can I send you a milion kisses for your Boo Boo? Hope the shots work! Happy Birthday to Susan!
Buddy is in the best of hands and paws! Hope the therapy works! Thank you for the birthday post. What a surprise! And yes, I am elderly and one of your oldest friends!
Oh No!! Poor Buddy!! I hope he heals up fast and doesn't need the surgery.
I've done lots of reading on the ACL problems in Labs... Sophie had a partial last spring. Crate rest is your best bet right now. You may be able to avoid the surgery (which I am not convinced is the best option in the majority of cases), if you just let him be and just let him walk for bathroom breaks only. Once he is up and around, gentle exercise to rebuild the muscle tone. But, I'm sure you know all this stuff anyway...:)
Crossing fingers and paws here!!

Hope Buddy gets well quickly and won't need surgery!
Oh, RATS! I sure hope the alternative to surgery is successful!

Hi Kit! We'll send healing vibes in your direction that the prolotherapy works for Buddy. It was tried on one of my seniors a few years ago with good success! No surgery was needed. He could never run again like a crazy maniac, but he was 13 so it was okay! :-))) I hope you're having a good weekend!! Thank-you again for your thoughtful gift!!
Buddy I hope you do not need surgery. I will send some Vibes to hope the threapy works.

Good luck Buddy, hope the therapy works for you. One of my predecessors at this house had the problem, therapy helped him run and play another five years.

Hang in there Buddy!
I hope the injections really help!
Having surgery is the pits, I know, I now have the scar to prove it!
Soak up as much TLC as you can get!

So the visit to the second vet was a good decision, although the result was not what one would like. We have never heard of prolotherapy, very interesting approach. We will cross our paws that it works well for Buddy. Poor guy, please give him some snooter smoochies from all of us.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear that Buddy is injured. I hope that alternative therapy works. My holistic vet fixed up my sublimating patella with acupuncture when the regular vet wanted to operate. Looking for alternatives to being cut open is a good thing.
I can't believe I had to go back this far to see what Buddy's trouble was! I have been a terrible blogger pal. I am so sorry Buddy! I thought I had made it clear that DWBK Club (Dogs with Busted Knees) was not taking new members!!! There are too many doggies in the club and it is really not much fun anyway. :-( I guess we can make an exception for you but jeeeze!
